AFTER GIOVANNI

After Giovanni is the companion playlist to Resident Artist Concert 4 of PGMF2026: Mozart and Beyond, presented in collaboration with Sole Orchestra. Within the six-concert arc of the festival, this concert introduces the encounter “Mozart as Drama.” If earlier concerts re-hear Mozart through sound, question Mozart through critique, or reactivate Mozart through improvisation, After Giovanni takes Mozart’s dramatic world and subjects it to the strongest structural transformation in the series.

The concert does not retell Don Giovanni through direct quotation or operatic reconstruction. Instead, it works from Mozart as method rather than as style. The composer’s response begins from dramaturgical thinking: the way small motifs expand into large-scale energy, the way recurrence builds pressure, the way desire becomes pattern, and the way a work moves toward an ending that cannot be avoided.
