Future in Motion — Mozart in Red and the Art of Inheritance

Future in Motion is the fifth Resident Artist concert in PGMF2026: Mozart and Beyond and the point in the festival where inheritance becomes visible as a living artistic act. Selected from this year’s Call for Artists, the featured program, Mozart in Red, represents the moment when Mozart passes into the hands of the next generation—not as something to be preserved intact, but as something to be received, contested, transformed, and made newly meaningful.

Within the six-concert arc of the festival, this concert introduces the encounter “Mozart as Inheritance.” The idea is not simply that younger artists perform Mozart, but that they decide what Mozart becomes now. In that sense, inheritance is not passive reception. It is an act of interpretation, pressure, selection, and response.
